Identified

Self-centric thought is merely a protective mechanism,
A program to protect and promote the self-interests at all costs.

The basic conflict is that you demand an identity whereas
Your essential nature is without one.
There is movement away from the essence and
Toward what seems more comfortable, identity.

The sense I-am calls out for definition:
What am I?

That is the start of the identification process,
The creation of an individuated form of consciousness and
The attachment of things to it.

Over time, the identities change,
But the demand for identification does not.
